Erik earned a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Cal State University Dominguez Hills and went on to earn his Education Specialist Credential and Masters in Special Education from Cal State University Long Beach in 2013. Prior to joining PRC-Saltillo, Erik taught special education at the moderate-severe level, during which time he supported students in his classroom with a wide variety of Assistive Technology, including Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) systems. After incorporating various AT solutions as a teacher, Erik began working as an Assistive Technology Specialist in the public school setting and earned his initial AT Certification through the West End SELPA in Rancho Cucamonga. Erik has worked as an AT Specialist, conducting AT assessments for cognitive aides, computer/physical access and AAC, and leading district wide, school site, and individual team training sessions on the features and implementation of various AT devices and programs. Erik has presented at numerous conferences and guest lectured on the topic of Assistive Technology at the university level, including as a guest lecturer on Assistive Technology in public schools (CSULB 2016-2021), the CSULB Strategies for Diverse Learners Conference (2016 - Presenter on Assistive Technology), the Council for Exceptional Children Conference in San Diego, CA (2016- Presenter on Assistive Technology), and the Council for Exceptional Children Conference in Boston, MA (2017 - Presenter on Assistive Technology). In 2022, Erik became ATP (Assistive Technology Professional) certified through the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA).
