New bilingual language app brings the power of motor planning to bilingual communicators on an iPad

Once again, PRC leads the way in language system innovation for individuals with autism.

Prentke Romich Co. (PRC) is pleased to announce an upgrade enhancement to the LAMP Words for Life application. Introducing LAMP Words for Life - Spanish/English, now available as part of the LAMP Words for Life app that comes standard on PRC’s tablet-based PRiO device. The new bilingual language system is also available for download in the Apple iTunes Store.

LAMP Words for Life - Spanish/English is specifically developed for those non-verbal individuals with autism who are building communication skills in a bilingual environment. The language system supports the Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) methodology of one consistent and unique motor plan for each word. The popular Words for Life English system is mirrored by Spanish vocabulary in both single hit and sequenced configurations.

The LAMP Words for Life - Spanish/English app includes:

• The ability to import and export files via Dropbox
• Additional new Spanish icons
• The Word Finder feature, now offering the ability to show the motor pattern for a word.
• VocaliD compatibility
• Spanish Voices – Free Ivona Voices (Miguel, Penelope, Conchita, Enrique)
• The ability to purchase premium voices via in-app purchase (bilingual voices and some additional Acapela child voices).

And, with the purchase of a PRiO, customers will get one premium voice for FREE (including an option for a bilingual voice).

“We receive a lot of feedback from attendees at our LAMP seminars throughout the country,” said Cindy Halloran, Director of the Center for AAC & Autism and one of the originators of the LAMP methodology. “Increasingly we heard over and over requests for a truly bilingual, Spanish-English language system. We’re pleased that our partner, PRC, continues to support the Center with innovations such as this.”

Similar to PRC’s other bilingual products, including the UNIDAD and LAMP Words for Life – Spanish/English language programs on PRC’s Accent devices, is the “toggle” capability, that allows the user to switch quickly and easily between the two languages, quickly and easily, without having to continually open and close programs and screens, keeping vocabulary, motor plans and voices consistent across both languages. This gives the communicator the ability to find the comparable word in either language.
